You've seen the freak in the show. Now, get a glimpse of what he's up to in the written (or drawn) word. Here's a little something I like to call my "Simpsons Comics' Guide to Sideshow Bob"! Take a peek. ^^

1. Simpsons comics #2: Cool Hand Bart - published JANUARY 1994
After spray painting an offending message over the Springfield Elementary School mascot, Principal Skinner decides to punish Bart in a much more severe manner. Packing Bart, Milhouse, Nelson, Jimbo and Kerney into the school bus Skinner sends them to the "scared spitless program," being run at the Springfield Prison. During a mock "lockdown" where Bart and Milhouse are locked in a cell to show them how bad prison life can be, they discover the cell they are in is occupied by Sideshow Bob! Quickly Bart squeezes through the prison bars on the window, and hops into a leaving truck to get away. Unfortunately, the truck is on it's way to take some prisoners to a chain gang, and Sideshow Bob is one of them!...

2. Simpsons comics #11: Fallen Flanders - published JULY 1995
Ned Flanders gets lost in the woods during a Flanders campout and is never heard from again. During his funeral at the church, he comes back. But Flanders seems more menacing now. He even robs the bank and when he's shot, green goop substitutes as blood. With the help of Rainer Wolfcastle, Bart and Lisa go to find some answers. In a field near the campsite, they find a giant grass cutting of Bart with a cross on his head. Soon, the three are brought in by Kang and Kodos' ship, which is in cohorts with Sideshow Bob...

3. Simpsons comics #23: Bart de Triomphe - published AUGUST 1996
A kid named Neil wins a trip with Krusty to see his show in France. But since Neil's uncle is Sideshow Bob (!*), and relatives of Krusty cast members are not admitted, he's not allowed to go and Bart is handed over the tickets. Bart takes Milhouse as his chaperone, with the help of a fake ID. Krusty, Milhouse & Bart go to Paris. But when they get there, they find Krusty's show has been cancelled. Not only that, they're also to discover a criminal ring that's run by Sideshow Bob, along with two guys named Ugolin and Cesar...

* -- this is often a confusing case. if Neil is Sideshow Bob's nephew, does this make him Cecil's son? a lot of people obsess over this. I'm just going to stick with this: it's ambiguous. this comic was published in 1996, the first appearance of Cecil on the show ("Brother From Another Series") was a year later. the kid doesn't come before the dad, you know. I tend to leave this subject alone because Neil was mostly placed here to help the plot move along, and was never seen again. he was also never, ever mentioned on the show. as we know, Cecil made a fewrecurring appearances in the comics.
I'd ignore the entire Neil thing if I were you.
